Bennie's Red Barn: Reviews & Ratings
Tender lamb chops, crispy fried chicken, cherry chocolate "Raccoon" cocktail! Timeless and romantic wooden barn, and beautiful patio/dance floor. Impeccable staff. If this were in my town, I'd be there every weekend.
Loved the whole Red barn feel to the restaurant. The inside was really neat as well. I did a bunch of veggies which I loved. But we ordered steak and I would recommend not doing that. My daughter‘s steak was overdone and dry. My husband steak was cold and we had to send it back. We also got fried chicken, which was amazing. I felt bad every time we had to ask the server for anything because they seemed like they didn’t even want to be there.
I ordered the Ribeye with a baked potato and my husband ordered the grilled salmon. Both cooked perfectly. Small portions for the price. They grill over wood and the taste is great! The small biscuits were warm and soft. The salad had a Italian dressing on it that was nice. The atmosphere is really nice. Love the wood! May need to paint the ceiling or add silver tiles for bright touch and the outside of the barn is in desperate need of repair.
We were recommended Bennie’s by one of the members of our group during a fishing trip and the entire experience was incredible. Our server, Gordon, was an absolute professional, paced the meal perfectly, and always kept us taken care of with a smile. The manager stopped by for a cordial table touch. The meal was terrific. We had a group of six and no matter what any of us ordered, it was fantastic. The fried chicken was perfectly battered and moist, the mushrooms were perfectly seasoned, the steak was cooked just right, and the calamari was buttery and delicate. If you’re in St. Simons for any amount of time, do yourself a favor and check them out. Ask for Gordon, you won’t regret it.
The food was very good overall. The rolls were toasty and tasty, the soups and salads were good as well. The T-bones: the filet side was tender and delicious, but the strip side was very fatty and full of gristle. Our server was very young and inexperienced; she was friendly but made a few small mistakes - not an unpleasant evening at all, she just needs a little more time and experience. Overall, we left fat and happy!
Bennie’s is one of the reasons I visit the area period. Delicious food, history, cordial staff to the nth degree. The open floor plan does nothing to detract from a quaint and times gone by romantic vibe set by the decor and lighting. Visiting the bar is also a treat as well as cozying up next to the wood burning fire. Looking forward to the next time we can go.
The food was ok. I did like the char flavor of the steak but the steamed vegetables weren't much more than from a can or a frozen vegetable medley. The steaks were cooked correctly which was a great plus. I wasn't as good as the last time we came but still worth a try.
I had the filet, and it was cooked to absolute perfection—tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. The collard greens? Unreal. Perfectly seasoned and the kind of side that makes you want to order another round. The service was attentive, and the whole experience just felt like old-school hospitality done right. If you’re looking for a classic spot outside of the village area, do yourself a favor and check this place out.
